Stuck Inside

Inside the West Bank during our bus ride

The snow has kept us inside all week. To us the snow is nothing, but here it's a big deal. We had our first classes today. We were talking and Brother Judd said things like, "If you look out the window, Nephi killed Laban somewhere inside that wall." And, "Just past that hill, Abraham. . ." I didn't realize how much history is here! I expected to learn about the New Testament, not so much the Old Testament and Book of Mormon. Everything happened right here! It's so cool! Tomorrow we will go into the city for the first time to see the garden tomb after church. I can't wait! Then Sunday they will set us free and we will get to go into Old Jerusalem. We have had many security meetings with all the rules so we are safe out there. It is really intense. For example, guys have to get into taxis first so the drivers don't kidnap the girls. We also have to walk in front of the guys while in town. It is intense but the staff really take care of us. Tofique, our security guy, is an awesome man. We have cell phones so when we are in the city we can call him if we ever run into trouble. I feel really safe. This entire center is like a family. It is amazing how Israeli's, Palestinians, and Mormons can all live and work together under one roof. Today we were assigned committees. I'm on the humanitarian committee. We have a bunch of service projects lined up. We will make hygiene and school kits, teach English to the local preschool, help in the hospital, play with severely handicapped children, and lots of other projects. We even get to paint a mural in the elementary school and they asked me to create the design for it! I had no idea how much this center does! They also give tours and monthly concerts for the locals. This is an amazingly inspired program. Even though we haven't left the center yet, I'm enjoying myself and loving this place!
